AWS
Another stellar weekly roundup (I do try to read these every week).

In the current AWS weekly roundup, AWS announces a bunch of new releases to include:

  • Storage Browser for Amazon S3 (alpha release)

  • AWS Glue job queuing

  • Amazon DynamoDB Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC)

  • Amazon Bedrock Agents support for Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet

A bunch of other announcements were made as well.

There is also announcements for the summits, today to be exact in Toronto and in Ottawa on October 9.

GCP

A 20 minute plus video about Google Cloud’s AI initiatives and strategies. You just have to read the article (I could not find the iframe).

AZURE
No Azure database focused news today. maybe I will find something Friday.

DATABRICKS
This is getting out of hand. What the heck is “SunGT“? You can read about it here, and how Databricks Mosaic AI comes into the picture.

GRAPH DATABASES
Neo4j has transformed its cloud database portfolio to accelerate the adoption of graph technology for enterprises, integrating generative AI (GenAI) to enhance data processing and decision-making.

The updates aim to simplify the use of graph databases and expand enterprise capabilities with features like advanced visualization and query tools powered by AI.

VECTOR DATABASES
Forrester will unveil its 2025 tech leadership and AI predictions at the Technology & Innovation Summit North America. of course, Vector Databases are among the items discussed.

These predictions will focus on advancements in AI, emerging tech trends, and how leaders can leverage innovation to drive success.

DEEP DIVE
If you work long enough, you will encounter someone that just plain does not like to see your progress. Keep in mind, keeping up to date with all of this database stuff is not easy. There are so many use cases of databases now that it may seem difficult to keep up.

Circling back to my first statement, when you begin to level up, some folks will not want to see you shine. They will try to score points in meetings, harbour ill will towards you, and outright sabotage you. These are the things not taught in college, or found in some Microsoft documentation.

Trust and believe that I have had my share of individuals that did not want to see me progress. Even to this day, I still have my detractors. I think the main thing that is wrong with people like that, is that their insecurities get the best of them.

If they were thinking people, they could learn something from someone who is making great strides.

As stated earlier, keeping up with database technologies is challenging. At the moment, my primary focus is Azure Synapse, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, and Databricks. Just focusing and one of these can be a full time occupation. But I will state it now. Be well versed in as many technologies as possible. Just keep in mind, your learning and progress is for the benefit of you and your employer or client. Just have the mental strength to keep the noise away and focus.
