DEEP DIVE
The Issue of Postgres (and MySQL for that matter as well)
As I type this, I am gearing up for the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in Orlando, Florida (got back a couple of hours ago from the pre-registration).

Me and some of my team members just came off a successful Postgres migration because of certain versions not being supported in the near future.
With the migration out of the way, it brings me to the reason as to why or why not implement these two aforementioned relational databases. I am going to endeavor to dig al lot deeper into these two databases as I am not seeing their demise anytime soon.
Just to add some color (I’m typing this while in the U.S. so my Canucks and Brits, don’t get flustered, I know it’s colour), I find Postgres clunky and pgadmin in particular, counter-intuitive. I had some choice English and Jamaican patois curse words throughout the last two months working on the migration.
I guess I could counter my frustration in saying that Postgres and MySQL are free (sort of). Compute cost can add up considerably in a cloud environment, but you are not paying some usurious licensing fee.
All in all, watch out for my multi-part foray into the pros and cons of Postgres and MySQL. It will be interesting.
